Arlington, Va. -- The Telecommunications Industry Association (TIA) Board of
Directors elected eight new board members at its recent meeting, April 11 in Cambridge, Md. New board
members are Michael Thurk, group vice president-enterprise, Avaya; Charlie Fox, general manager, Tyco;
Carlos Munoz, CEO, Cam Communications Inc.; and Alexis Scott, executive vice president, Lexcom
Telecommunications Co. Michael Glickman, vice president, U.S. service provider, Cisco; Hilary Mine, senior
vice president, Alcatel; Rob Pullen, senior vice president of North America sales, Tellabs; and Dana
Rasmussen, senior vice president and general manager, Next Generation Business Unit, Siemens Carrier Networks,
will assume unfulfilled seats on the board.
Ernie J. Carey, vice president-network, SBC, addressed TIA's board and provided details on SBC's Project Lightspeed. The SBC Project Lightspeed is a $4 billion capital initiative to deploy fiber-to-the-neighborhood and fiber-to-the-premises technologies to 18 million households across 13 states by the end of 2007. Another component of the meeting was the approval of TIA's GLOBALCOMM™ objectives. The leaders of the supplier community expressed strong support for GLOBALCOMM, TIA's new marketplace and summit.
To be held June 2006 at McCormick Place in Chicago, GLOBALCOMM will bring together a broad base of global information and communications technology (ICT) suppliers, service providers, enterprises and other users of ICT to find comprehensive solutions for the converged, next-generation global communications marketplace. GLOBALCOMM's objectives include attracting 17,500-20,000 visitors from more than 100 countries.
GLOBALCOMM™ is a trademark of the Telecommunications Industry Association (TIA). The Next- Generation Marketplace and Summit will take place June 5-8, 2006, at Chicago's McCormick Place.
